What I Think I Know
The sources are fragmentary and filtered — but they are real. People once lived and died in these stories. The archaeology is not fake. The poetry is extraordinary. Something here is worth years of attention even if I never become a believer in any formal sense.
Ethically, the path asks for honor, courage, and truthfulness in ways that improve me whether or not gods are literal. That could be Modern rationalization. It could also be how living traditions always begin — values first, metaphysics argued later. I hold both possibilities.
What I Do Not Know
I do not know if the gods are persons, forces, or cultural concentration. I do not know if blót does anything beyond community binding. I do not know which modern rituals are continuity and which are costume. I do not know if I will join a kindred, stay solitary, or remain a student indefinitely.
I do not know if wearing Mjölnir would feel like coming home or like lying. That uncertainty is not a crisis. It is the accurate weather report. Rushing to clear skies would be dishonest storytelling — the kind this project refuses.
What I Distrust in Myself
I like building systems — websites, frameworks, beautiful pages. Religion can become another system to optimize. I watch for that. I also watch for rebellion cosplay: rejecting mainstream church only to collect Norse aesthetics instead of doing the moral work.
The hardest doubt is not about gods. It is about whether I want truth or belonging more. Communities offer belonging. Sources offer difficult truth. Sometimes they coincide. Sometimes they do not. I am trying to want truth first — knowing I will fail sometimes and need to correct course.
Not Yet Worn — Not a Failure State
Staying unworn is an active choice, not absence of progress. I have read poems, mapped cosmology, learned pronunciation, faced Christianization's shadow, and named labels I will not misuse yet. That is movement. It just does not look like jewelry.
If the day comes when I wear Mjölnir, I want this page to still be true — doubt did not vanish; it was answered enough to act. Faith without any doubt is either rare or performed. I am betting on honest partial sight: walk until the path clarifies, or until I learn this was study only, and carry that truth with the same honor I would carry belief.
In the Hall
This commitment opens into years of material. Start here — then walk where the sources lead.
